Nick McWilliams reporting – The Uhrichsville Police Department will operate with a full staff of officers after one hire and one job offer.

The department recently experienced a few resignations, prompting concern from Police Chief Vince Beal.

Beal said last year that at times, the department has been forced to operate with only one officer on duty, and had asked for additional hires to assist with the work load that continues to climb to drug-related activity and other daily calls officers handle.

The city has reportedly hired one new officer, Brian Lawyer, who is transitioning from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office and will likely be able to acclimate quickly. His official state date is May 29th.

Another offer has been extended to a recent interviewee, with Mayor Mark Haney confident in a potential hiring, pending a physical and polygraph testing.

Training will last roughly six weeks, with two weeks periods with a current officer on each of the three shifts.
