A motion was made to start the process of placing the Uhrichsville City garage up for sale.
Mayor Jim Zucal previously discussed moving the garage to a different location and Thursday evening, council agreed for plan to begin.
“We want to market that as a business to the community with income tax revenue, so the first step was what council passed tonight is a motion to get the law director start preparing legislation so that we can eventual accept sealed bids or have a public auction. “
The only no vote came from councilman Matt Fox.
Zucal says they’re still in the early phases and do not have an option for where a new city garage could go.
“We’re actively seeking that. We’re asking for input from our citizens too. We want a good place for them to work. We just feel that downtown could be marketed as a vibrant business and income tax revenue.”
The city had purchased the building at 126 N Main Street in August 2006 for $295,000, according to the Tuscarawas County Auditor’s website.
Zucal advocates to sell the property partly because no other municipality has a city garage in their downtown, and to potentially bring in a business.
