Nick McWilliams reporting – Due to unforeseen issues, the opening of the Uhrichsville Water Park will not happen Memorial Day weekend.
Despite the best efforts of city staff, the park will remain closed this weekend and will open sometime next week, due to issues with the water levels in the pool.
Mayor Mark Haney says that initially, the city service department believed the hydrostat valves, which push water into the pool, were the culprit of the water level dropping, but upon further inspection found that various original seals were failing.
“We ended up having to completely drain the pool. What we found out is, and of course it’s a part of the design of this water park, is there are a lot of seals. We’ve fixed some over the years, and every year we look at them to see how they look. They looked pretty good we thought. But some of them were still underwater.”
After draining the pool and power washing the pool, it was discovered that seals lower in the basin were allowing water to flow out, dropping the level two inches per night.
Haney says that city workers went the extra mile to solve the issue and deserve praise for finding the problem and addressing it.
“I want to thank my service department guys. They ended up working Saturday and Sunday with some long hours. We had a lot of people involved. Our fire department guys came down to do some diving for us, and do some testing.”
With new seals now installed, the city is starting the filling process Friday afternoon, which takes roughly two or more days to completely fill, and a few more days to bring the heat to a proper level and balance the chemicals to keep the water clean.
Updates are expected on the city’s Facebook page, along with the water park page.
