Nick McWilliams reporting – The Penny War at the Tuscarawas County YMCA is back for its third year.

Running from May 8th to the 14th, the event is centered around paper bills and pennies by awarding points for each department that receives the donations. Silver coins like quarters, dimes, and nickels will give negative points.

Members of the Y and residents are encouraged to participate and help their favorite group win.

The department with the most points by the end of the week will be declared the winner. Categories that can receive points are fitness, aquatics, childcare, member services, and sports/gymnastics.

Last year, the event led to over $790 raised for the Y, which was used for financial assistance for members who are unable to afford various programs and membership.
