New Philadelphia Police say one man is dead and another is in custody after Sunday afternoon’s shooting in town.
Chief Tessa Pohovey identifies the victim as 42-year-old Christopher Damron of New Philadelphia. Officers were sent to his home in the 200 block of Second Street Southwest just after 4 p.m. following two 911 hang-ups and a third call reporting a man had been shot inside the residence.
Pohovey says officers provided aid to Damron until firefighters arrived, while the suspect was detained at the scene without incident.
Both men were taken to the hospital. Pohovey says the shooting was an isolated incident between two individuals who knew each other, and there was no broader threat to the community. No motive is being released, only that there was an altercation between the two.
She says the suspect’s identity will be released once he is formally charged and appears in court, likely on Tuesday.
