Mary Alice Reporting –
Work has been ongoing in the Village of Tuscarawas following the detection of lead in the drinking water on May 17th.
Administration posted an update this week noting actions that have been taken to identify the lead source.
On June 13th, the process of feeding phosphate began, which helps prevent corrosion in drinking water pipes. Additionally, the entire system was flushed to help it move through the pipes.
Testing has been conducted and it was discovered that no lead is in the water leaving the treatment plant, meaning that the source is likely from plumbing fixtures and solder.
The village is planning to continue taking water samples and the results will determine if further action is needed.
In-home lead testing, in coordination with the Ohio Rural Water Association, will be conducted for those interested on July 12th and 13th. Those wanting to get home plumbing tested are asked to contact the village at 740-922-4189.
Meanwhile, the Tuscarawas County Health Department can be contacted at 330-343-5555 if Tusky residents have any health concerns.
