Viola “Vi” Yoder, 85, of Sugarcreek, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home following a period of declining health.

She was born in LaGrange, Indiana on October 23, 1938, to the late Samuel JB and Katie (Yoder) Miller and married Monroe Edward Yoder on November 2, 1957.  He died on March 17, 2014.

Vi was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Sugarcreek where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was secretary of the Royal Bible Sunday School Class for many years and also served as Treasurer for a while, was member of the Homemakers Guild for many years, sang in the choir for 29 years, and served on the Christian Education Committee. She served a Cub Scout Den Mother for 9 years.

She graduated from Gerber’s Beauty School in 1972 and was owner and hairstylist of Classic Hair Fashion from 1973 until her retirement on June 23, 2017, for a total of 44 years.  She was a member of the Hairstyle of the Month Club, National Hairdresser Association, National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), and the Sugarcreek Business Association.

She is survived by her three sons, Craig A. (Carole) Yoder of Baltic, Todd W. (Teresa) Yoder of Sugarcreek and Eric R Yoder of New Philadelphia; 5 grandchildren, Justin (Susan) Yoder, Tara (Jared) Stutzman, Andrea (Keith) Dahlstein, Bree (friend Brandon Kasburg) Yoder, and Kyle Yoder; 6 great grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Miller of Akron and Fannie Miller of Millersburg; two sisters-in-law Anna (Adam) Miller of Dalton and Edna (Emanuel) Miller of Wilmot; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Lovina Fredrickson and Mattie miller; five brothers John, Christ, Ivan, Adam and Emanuel; two brothers-in-law Allen Fredrickson and Pete Miller and sister-in-law Susan Miller.

Services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11 AM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek with Pastor Mike Gehman officiating.  Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call on Thursday from 3-5 PM at the Funeral Home.
