Gwen Rummell Reporting –

As part of National Donate Life Month in April, Vitalant is urging eligible donors to give blood.

Hospitals have a decreased blood supply in the spring and summer months due to a lack of donations. Vitalant is encouraging donation by opting in donors to the Blaze a Trail giveaway who give with the organization from April 1st through 20th.

Vitalant Regional Communication Manager Maya Santana says many who donate blood claim they feel a greater sense of purpose.

“Each unit donated can save up to three lives so it’s super important that we are supporting patients in need and this can be due to surgeries, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. Most importantly, blood donation really just encourages individuals to contribute to the wellbeing of others.”

Two blood drives are upcoming in Tuscarawas County for the month of April.

On Thursday, April 25th, Indian Valley High School will allow donations from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. The next day, Lakeland Academy in Newcomerstown has slots from 2:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
