The American Red Cross is hoping the scenes of destruction from Hurricane Helene will inspire some people to volunteer with the organization.

Spokesman Jim McIntyre says the Red Cross has hundreds of volunteers who are helping in the hardest hit areas, working in shelters serving meals and providing supplies to the victims.

McIntyre says there are many ways volunteers can help fulfill the Red Cross mission, including opportunities to volunteer on the local level, such as after house fires.

People interested can learn more about the roles being filled by clicking on the volunteer tab at www.redcross.org.
