Mary Alice Reporting –
Deputies responded to a July 4th call regarding shots being fired in Wainwright.
According to a press release, from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, the call at 9:30pm, was from a neighbor, on Wainwright Road, and the person indicated an intoxicated male shooting a gun, and a concern was the shots being fired toward the shooter’s home and that his wife and children were inside.
Deputies, upon arriving, encountered the man who was inside the garage, and he was observed holding a handgun. Commands were issued but the male did not release the weapon and instead pointed it at law enforcement, causing them to fire, striking the man in the arm and leg.
Deputies rendered first aid until Warwick Township Fire and Smith Ambulance arrived on scene. The 41-year-old man was transported with non-life-threatening injuries. His name is not being released at this time.
The deputies and family members were not injured.
As per protocol, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification will conduct the investigation.
