Mary Alice Reporting – In the first council meeting of 2023, Uhrichsville Mayor Mark Haney recommended a bid approval for a culvert replacement to address a road leading to a local business.

In August 2022, city Service Director Belle Everett noted the approval for an almost $66,000 grant, through Ohio Public Works Commission, to be used for a deteriorating box culvert and bridge on Wardell Street.

At the recent council meeting, Haney recommended the approval of the Wardell culvert replacement bid, at $286,264,000, from West Virginia Ohio Excavating. This price is under the engineer’s estimate and will save the city over $57,000. Haney noted that they city will have to take out an OPWC interest-free loan for over $37,000 and the remaining ten percent will be from ARPA funding. Council approved the bid.

The mayor said that part of the upcoming conversations related to the bridge replacement and improvements could involve changing the road to make it wider or even creating an additional access point for businesses in the area on the west side of town.
