Mary Alice Reporting –

Over the weekend a marker was unveiled designated the Warther Museum plot as a historical location.

June 8th holds significance for the Warther family which is when Ernest “Mooney” Warther passed and, on that day, they unveiled a marker dedicating the site as being part of the National Register.

Museum Director Kristen Harmon says that they went through the extensive application process and this plaque further celebrates the legacy of the Warther family that started with Mooney.

“We’re really excited to have this. We’ve placed right at our front entrance to the museum for all of our visitors to come and see.”

She points out that the historical dedication encompasses everything considered as 331 Karl Avenue.

“It extends from our historic calico ditch, the family home, the first museum which is the button house now, the gardens. There’s certain features, like our windmill, that are also dedicated as certain markers, the grape harbor, those have been here since 1917 and so on. Same thing with the workshop and of course the museum itself.”

Harmon adds that they applied for the historical marker three years ago with the Ohio Historical Association.
