Mary Alice Reporting –
A two-vehicle crash, on Thursday, had shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 77 for roughly an hour and a half.
According to the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the head-on collision occurred just afternoon noon, when a southbound Hyundai Elantra went across the median into the northbound lanes, and struck a Nissan Armada.
The Elantra driver, 30-year-old Andres Corio, of Dover, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital by Dover EMS. The other driver, a 41-year-old, from Willowick, Ohio, was treated on scene.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors and safety belts were in use. The investigation continues but troopers believe heavy downpours contributed to the crash.
Assisting on scene, to help with traffic control, was the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
