The Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market is having its first Senior Day Wednesday from 3 to 7pm at the County Fairgrounds.

Market representative Mark McKenzie says this is a chance to highlight the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program where qualifying senior citizens receive a 50-dollar allowance to spend on fruits and vegetables at the market.

“A total of $1,700 will be distributed at the market in the form up to $5 in one dollar increments that will complement the Senior Nutrition Program”

The Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens Network will have a booth at the Market where seniors can pick up a five-dollar voucher along with information about other relevant services.

“The Senior Market Program is very successful in supporting our senior’s. Part of the whole idea of the program is to support senior health.”

There also will be food trucks at the market Wednesday, including Yummy Pita and Schloneger’s Ice Cream, plus a cooking demo and live music.
