Mary Alice Reporting –

Throughout the summer, the Tuscarawas County Health Department has been conducting trapping of mosquitos.

They submitted over 6,000 to the Ohio Health Department for testing and TCHD was notified on August 24th that a pool collected at 7667 Blizzard Ridge Road SE, in Uhrichsville, tested positive for West Nile Virus.

WNV is a mosquito-borne disease that is spread to humans from the insects bite. Most people infected do not display any symptoms.

Mosquito spraying will be conducted at the Mill Township location, this evening, weather permitting. If inclement weather is present, the date will be pushed to Monday. Once the first round of spraying is concluded, a second spray will occur in two weeks.

The Health Department recommends individuals to follow guidelines of wearing long sleeves and pants, and use insect repellent when outdoors; as well as, remove standing water.
