William Eugene Young, 83, of Canton, passed away at his home on Friday, March 31, 2023. Born October 1, 1939, in Dennison, he was a son of the late William Morris “Scotchy” Young and Josephine (Warden) Young Poulson.
Bill grew up in Dennison in the home of his beloved aunt and uncle, the late Elaine and Jack Smith, was a 1960 graduate of Dennison High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He returned home to a long career with the Hoover Co. in Canton, retiring in 2000 after 35 years. He was a longtime member of Park Christian Church in Dennison and had been a member of the L.C.C.A., as well. Bill loved his Lionel trains, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and watching all the sports his grandchildren played.
On March 18, 1961, Bill married Sally (Watt) Young with whom he enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until her passing in 2010. They are survived by a son, Wendel Young; daughter, Andrea Anderson (John Nickol); grandchildren, Heather (Bobby) Fair, Trista Morris, Whitney (Jake) Burton, Brooke Anderson, Casey Young and Hawk Young; and great-grandchildren, Kaden, Ethan, Bella, Riley, Lane, Raina, Linnix, Easton, Aria, Colston, and Cooper William. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Greg Anderson and mother and father-in-law.
Pastor Trent Ross will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral on Tuesday, April 4, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where his family will receive callers for two hours prior to the service. Interment will following Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
