Wilma Lee Briggs, 87, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 17, 2022, in Hennis Care Center at Bolivar.
Born in Calais, Ohio on June 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Harriet Marie (Leach) Carpenter.
Wilma graduated from Dennison High School and worked as a cook at the former Bonvechio’s Restaurant. On July 4, 1954, Wilma married the late Robert D. Briggs. They shared more than 67 years of marriage prior to his passing.
Wilma’s faith was nurtured at the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where she was a member. She was also an avid Jass card player, enjoying Wednesday evenings for numerous years playing alongside her friends in Tusky. Wilma was a devoted fan of the Guardians, Browns, and Cavaliers, too. Most importantly, she was devoted to her family. Wilma adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought much love and joy to her life.
Wilma is survived by a son, Dr. Robert (Heidi) Briggs, Jr. of New Philadelphia; two daughters, Brenda Selden of Bolivar and Lori (Keith) Noonan of Michigan; seven grandchildren, Rebecka (Steve) Santangelo, April (Keith) Pittis, Cortney (Joel) Goodwin, Ryan (Kayla) Selden, Stacy (Tyler) Rippel, Kason (Maliha) Singh and Nina Singh; nine Great Grandchildren, Brandon, Sloan, Boston, and Charlie Pittis, Caden Goodwin, Camryn, and Kaitlyn Santangelo and Micah and Harper Rippel; sister, Linda Carpenter; and sisters-in-law, Donna and Marvella Carpenter
In addition to her parents and husband, Wilma is preceded in death by her siblings, William, Leonard, Clayton, Tom, Dennis, Jake Carpenter, Beulah Henry, and Wanda Miller; and her son-in-law, Gordon Selden.
Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Pastor Brandon Keck will officiate her service beginning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Inurnment will follow the service in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery at Tuscarawas.
