New Philadelphia city officials say crews working on the redesign of the downtown square have hit a couple of snags but continue to make progress.
Work started in the fall on the project funded by a 2.9-million dollar state grant. It must be completed by October as part of the funding requirements.
Service Director Ron McAbier says some pavers were misshapen and had to be replaced, and workers found a coal chute that they had to work around.
Mayor Joel Day says the project is nearing the halfway point. He says the pavers, new stage and added outdoor seating will give the center of town a fresh, new look.
Officials are asking drivers to be cautious or avoid driving through the High Avenue-Broadway Street intersection as construction barrels are affecting the turning lanes there.
