Work is continuing on the renovation of softball fields in New Philadelphia, with additional recreational opportunities around the corner in the city.

Park Board Chair and Councilman Mitch Pace reported on the matters to council at their most recent meeting.

He says that work on the latest stage at Waterworks Park should be wrapping up in the next few days.

“The Field 8 softball dugouts … they got the block up [Monday.] I think that might be record time. I think it only took about three hours to get both of those up. Those should be done by the end of the week. All the fields were full this evening, so baseball and softball is in full swing.”

Additionally, the city will also hold its new annual tradition of the Trout Derby on April 27th.

Anyone participating that is 16 or older will need a valid fishing license, and the kid-centered event will be from 8 a.m. to noon.

Further details are available on the New Philadelphia Trout Derby Facebook page.
