During a special hunting two-day season, for youth only, wild turkeys were checked, and Tuscarawas County came in top place.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife notes that for 2024, 1,785 birds where checked compared to 1,823 from the previous youth only weekend.

The season on April 13th and 14th was open to hunters 17 and younger and ODNR reports over 6,000 youth turkey permits issued. Top counties included Tuscarawas coming in at the top with 62 followed by Noble, Washington, Monroe, and Jefferson in the top five.

Turkey hunting for all ages begins April 20th and in the northeast zone, on April 27th. Spring turkey season is open until Sunday, May 19th with the northeast zone ending May 26th.

Participating hunters are required to have a valid license in addition to a spring turkey permit and are required to game-check no later than 11:30pm day of harvest.
