Unofficial results are in for Tuesday’s primary election.

Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Director Dave Johnson says overall everything went smooth.

“Our staff came together and the results of their training came through, and they got everything in and had it correct. It was a good night.”

In party contested races, the person with the majority of votes moves to the general election like Lisa Contini who received the majority of votes against fellow Republican Brett Hillyer. She’ll face democrat Joe Rinehart.

The contested race for Ohio House of Representatives District 51 is democrats Amanda Fontana and Angie Hall. Fontana won the majority of votes and moves on to face current representative Jodi Salvo in November.

In issues, New Philadelphia City School District‘s annual income tax proposal of 1.5 percent on the earned income of individuals residing within the district was voted down by just over 1,000 votes.

Dover library has a renewal for current expenses and other renewals for the Joint Union Cemetery and the Village of Strasburg for fire and emergency equipment all passed.

The Village of Newcomerstown’s 0.5 levy on income for 10 years for repairs and resurfacing of roadways was narrowly approved by 70 votes.

The Village of Tuscarawas was hoping for approval of an additional tax, not to exceed 2.4 mills, for current expenses. This levy dropped at the beginning of the year due to are error, and voters decided to not put it back on with a narrow margin of 12 votes.

Meanwhile, 76 to 19, voters in the Village of Mineral city said no to a 1 percent levy increase.

Auburn Township has two renewals up, one to benefit construction, resurfacing, and repair of roads and bridges. The other is for the continued support of fire and EMS services. Issue 8 collects just over $105,000 annual and Issue 9 brings in around $60,000. Both received support.

Bucks Township’s additional levy excludes the Village of Baltic and is for the purpose of maintaining streets with the roughly $73,000 the tax collects annually. The majority was against the levy at 40 voters, a 3-vote difference.

Johnson adds that all results are unofficial.

“Anything that’s outstanding. We have provisionals to see which ones count and which ones don’t. Come to the 11th and we will do official certification. That’s kind of when we wrap up all the loose ends after the election, like the provisionals and overseas voters. Once those are calculated we will then do an audit on the 18th.”

The audit will then be sent to the state for approval.
